Andrea is a recent BA (Hons) graduate from Somerset College of Art (University of Plymouth). Her work is a physical response to the experience of being in the landscape and she paints from a heightened perspective, as if looking down onto the land. This allows her the freedom that a traditional perspective would not.
“The emphasis is on the journey and travelling through, recounting memories, feelings and thoughts. The spiritual ‘primal’ connection I feel is an important element in my work. I recently spent a solitary week in North Wales, walking and climbing which provided a profoundly life-changing experience.
My rational explores my response to being there, how
I convey this experience through mark-making and use of colour in my work. I am considering ways in which I perceive myself in a place, actually there, experiencing sight, sound, smell and touch. How can I explain this experience conceptually in connection with the way
I interpret the landscape on canvas?
