Becky Buchanan

A recent first class graduate of Somerset College, Taunton (University of Plymouth), Becky is a promising new talent in painting. Her large, fresh, lucid canvasses are steeped with colour and visual intrigue and reference pure abstraction with remarkable maturity. 

Inspired by current artists such as Alexis Harding and Fiona Rae, Becky challenges traditional art practice by utilising contemporary media such as resin paint in her work. By combining synthetic surfaces with traditional media, she aims to both challenge and captivate the viewer.

Having pursued a career in fashion in London, Becky relocated to Somerset about eight years ago. Her keen eye for colour design and texture is now being channelled into her paintings.

“I am primarily inspired by the contrasts between the urban and the rural landscape. This manifests itself through a fascination with juxtaposed visual languages.”
