Claire was born in Dorset. Drawing from an early age, her ambition was always to be an ‘artist’, which she achieved in her 30’s when she was able to return to Art, first with Clare Shepherd at an Adult Education class and then at The Institute for Arts Bournemouth where she attained a Fine Art & Design Diploma. 

After gaining a basic teaching qualification, Claire began teaching for Adult Education in North Dorset and she now teaches privately for two and half days a week, painting in her shed for the other two and a half.

“My series of large scale portraits regarding Alzheimers reflect my interest in the human character, its failings and deteriorations. I also constantly return to my love of the countryside.

While out working I draw and paint with watercolours, bringing these sketches back and completing them as large oils. I find the two mediums compliment each other – one giving the calm serenity of the land and the other the endless possibilities of investigation and experimentation on a larger scale.”
