Pennie Elfick

Pennie is a painter who investigates the poetic language created by colour and form through the observed landscape. Her involvement in a number of projects investigating the abstract interpretation of landscapes
has lead to a major series of exhibitions throughout
the West Country.

In conjunction with these exhibitions Pennie delivered workshops on the ‘Perception of Colour’. In 2001 she completed a residency at the Cill Rialaig Project in Kerry, Republic of Ireland; the time spent there was to have a major influence on her work. Pennie successfully exhibits across the South West and London and has undertaken commissions for international companies.

“The aim is to create work that has a duality, it is an emotional response to something natural but abstract in its pictorial structure. By removing figurative references to the natural world it is possible to investigate the poetry that can be created with colour and form.

These canvases, by the particular use of colour, create surfaces that sit quietly and yet command attention from the viewer, challenging them to contemplate and reassess what they think they see.”
