“For me the process of making a painting is an ongoing dialogue between the intention or ideas behind the work and the manipulation of the physical qualities of the materials used. All the thinking and making takes place on the canvas and as a result there is as much destruction as creation.
I use oil paint mixed with various mediums to create translucent layers which are laid down and lifted off creating a luminous and broken surface that often resembles a ceramic glaze. Recent paintings have their roots in the colours, textures and rhythms that characterise the landscape. The finished paintings are about this landscape and its elements rather than a description of it.”
