Following on the success of the Vision Exhibition which features three emerging artists, Now & Then features three more female Somerset artists. These artists, however, are far different in terms of their career. All three are old friends – well-known, established artists who have been producing work of the highest quality for many years.

Judy Hall | trained in graphic design and her paintings reflect this, having a strong design element. She is self-taught, having gained experience from a variety of past artists and from local workshops throughout the years.
“My paintings are abstract with recognisable symbols and I find myself drawn towards a more minimalistic, less cluttered style...”
Vera Sheaf | originally trained as a painter but over the last few years has explored printmaking. The distance from the original idea necessary in printmaking techniques has influenced her painting and encouraged her move towards abstraction. In paint she uses mixed media, taking full advantage of the resist methods. In printmaking she likes to use the painterly techniques of monoprint and collage.
“Primarily I am a colourist and my images are made in response to life and landscape. I make very quick sketches and notes to record my emotional response, and I take supporting photographs. These ideas can be used directly for a painting or print but often they emerge later...”

Sue Williams | her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and galleries around the country, many pieces being in private collections. She works in a variety of materials, each sculpture being a one-off or part of a limited edition. Many are based on her menagerie of animals and reflect a fascination with colour, fantasy and the surreal.
“My sculpture is inspired by a love of the natural world. I work in various media ranging from cast limestone and constructed concrete to sculptural ceramics and wirework...”
