> Meet Natalie Parsley...

16.08.09

I’m currently a third year BA(Hons) Fine Art student studying at Somerset College (University of Plymouth).

I really enjoy the creative, imaginative, spontaneous and, most importantly, fun elements to art. I’m interested, if not obsessed, in everyday and debatably mundane objects from socks, tools, irons and brooms to the beautiful and unique invention that is the umbrella.

As Claes Oldenburg once said “The message behind the mundane: forced to look not because it’s harmonious but because it exists.” By representing and re-presenting the ordinary I aim to make it more dynamic and interesting so that the audience becomes more aware of an object for what it is and not merely for what it does. I use different means of achieving this through painting, drawing, printmaking and collage.
