Miriam Sheppard is an artist based in Somerset, working from her studio in Shepton Mallet. She works predominantly in oil paint and sometimes graphite. The focus of her paintings is atmosphere and creating mood. Her primary influence is the landscape and capturing light however, her subject matter is not limited to the landscape and enjoys creating ‘quiet’ atmospheric interior paintings.
Her paintings begin as simple observational sketches drawn from life. From these initial studies, she develops a range of further explorations before moving toward finished works. This approach allows each subject to be explored in depth and from multiple perspectives. Rather than create isolated works, Miriam develops series of paintings. More recently she has been developing an interest in abstract work.
Miriam regularly exhibits as a member of the Bath Society of Artists and has exhibited at the RWA (Royal West of England Academy) in both their Annual Opens and as part of their Artist Network. She has also been invited to participate in various gallery exhibitions and other Opens.
